Wouter van der Velde

Wouter van der Velde was trained as a visual artist at the Free Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam.

After working as a designer at several advertising agencies, he rediscovered his passion for painting cloud-filled skies.

“When I’m outside or walking along the beach, I often look up. There’s always something special happening up there. I capture it with my camera because it’s often too beautiful to let drift away.”

He calls his work the imagination of a landscape. Because that’s exactly what it is.
There must be enough space for the viewer to explore. His cloudscapes with their play of light and shadow are impressive. The open horizon with its red tones is characteristic of his style.

“Clouds gather in my head and appear again on the canvas”
