Tanja Moderscheim

Tanja is a specialist in hyperrealism paintings, working in the style and techniques of 17th-century Dutch masters. Originals, oil on copper.

“As a Dutch artist ( living in the UK), I paint using the techniques and pigments used by the 17th Dutch painters. I do not use any modern pigments developed after 1700 and I also ensure that they are chemically identical.  The tulips I paint are the old types: I own a large collection of 16th-19th century heritage bulbs, sourced from the Hortus Bulborum foundation who are conservators of old and rare tulips. I grow these tulips in my garden and paint them when they flower. “

“With regard to the citrus paintings: as I explore cultural heritage in my work I ordered some of the famous Siracusa lemons and Moro oranges, which have a Protected Geographical, from a Sicilian farmer. My citrus paintings celebrate this ancient fruit and the people that have grown these over the centuries.”
